The South African World Cup event will be the 19th FIFA World Cup. It will be the first World Cup held in Africa. The event started on the 11 June 2010, concluding with the final on 11th July.
The 32 countries which qualified for the 2010 World Cup were placed into their eight groups in early Decmeber 2009. See the complete listing of the 2010 draw for each of the eight groups. This is the first World Cup with no debutant associations, although two of the qualifying countries (Slovakia and Serbia) have previously appeared only as parts of former competing nations.
The official match ball for the South Africa World Cup is named the “Jabulani”.Teams are allocated into eight groups of four teams, a total of 32 countries. In the first round, each team plays three matches, one against each of the other teams in their group. For a win 3 points are awarded, 1 point for a draw and no points for a loss. The top two teams in each group go through to the next round.
32 countries qualified for the World Cup, and the draw was made in early Decmeber 2009. Here is the draw for each of the eight groups of four teams each. Group G which comprise of Brazil, North Korea, Ivory Coast and Portugal have been described as the most difficult group, followed by group A.
